Up for sale is a very rare 1940's
Longines British Paratrooper wrist watch. These rare watches were
produced in a very limited production and were used towards the end
of WW2.
This specific watch is in an
outstanding condition (in & out & running great)!
This is the so-called "COSD" which
was developed in 1940s for the rigors of airborne use by the
Research and Development team of the British War Department. They
used existing stocks of Longines movements and housed them in a
specially-designed shock-resistant case made from brass and then
nickel plated.
Very
few were issued during or after the war, making this a rare and most
sought-after military collectible.
Details: chrome plated top/stainless steel screw back case with
heavy fixed lug bars and with the original gasket still intact.
This
watch measures 35.5mm from side to side, 46mm from lug to lug.
Signed
C.O.S.D. (British military), oversized crown. excellent signed white
dial (original) with painted black numerals and inner 12-24 hour
track, luminous markers and hands, center seconds.
The movement
is marked Longines, 15 jewels, caliber 15L, manual wind movement
(runs great), frosted gilt finish (serial #6129XXX serial). EARLY
SERIAL NUMBER!
This is a
real find, a British "Company Ordnance Supply Depot" paratrooper's
dive watch, in a special "Tuna Can" case suspending the movement,
designed to withstand the rigors of a parachute drop.
These
watches were used in limited numbers for D-Day and operation Market
Garden 1944. |
